Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans —excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance —the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks' daughter.

Based on a novel by renowned Japanese author Hideo Furukawa and inspired by history, INU-OH tells the story of a young man who aspires to be a performer, but is shunned because of his unique physical appearance. However, he can hear the voices of samurai who died fighting for the historic Heike clan 200 years ago, and each time he performs their stories, a part of his human appearance is transformed. After a fateful encounter with the blind biwa priest Tomona, the two join forces to climb the ladder to stardom. However, in an era of political turmoil, not everyone is ready for the true story of the Heike.

The film opened in Japan on May 28. Avu-chan of the Queen Bee rock band plays INU-OH, and Mirai Moriyama plays Tomona. Tasuku Emoto, Kenjirō Tsuda, and Yutaka Matsushige play Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, Inu-Oh's father, and Tomona's father, respectively.

Yuasa (DEVILMAN crybaby, Ride Your Wave, Japan Sinks: 2020) directed the film. Manga creator Taiyo Matsumoto drafted the original character designs for the film in his second collaboration with Yuasa, who directed the anime of Matsumoto's Ping Pong manga. Akiko Nogi wrote her first anime film after scripting such live-action works as I am a Hero, We Married as a Job!, and Unnatural.
