Japan's Wild Card Slot with Over One Million Votes
Japan's alternative idol group Dempagumi.inc. have won the MTV EMA "Best Japan Act" Wild Card slot with over one million votes. The six-member unit, referred to by MTV Iggy as “an insane mish-mash of styles… an explosion of joy and creativity” were competing for the Wild Card slot along with Crossfaith, [Alexandros], AK-69 and Gesu no Kiwami Otome, and will now join BABYMETAL, ONE OK ROCK, SEKAI NO OWARI and J Soul Brothers for the title of "Best Japan Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2015.
Group leader Risa Aizawa comments, “No matter how much effort we put in, it would not have been possible to be one of the nominees of Best Japan Act without our fans who support us all the time! Thank you so much! We will always do our best to be the ‘Best Act’ for our fans!”
Tom Smith, CEO of Dempagumi.inc.'s European label JPU Records adds, “I'm so proud of Dempagumi.inc.. They are truly unlike any other group, as their colourful and energetic live performance in London this summer demonstrated. It's amazing that such an alternative group, borrowing influences from a number of Japanese subcultures and underground scenes can now compete on the same level as these prominent Japanese acts.”
