Gintama: The Movie to premiere on PS3/Xbox 360 service on Sunday

North American anime distributor Viz Media announced on Wednesday that it will stream the K television anime series with an English dub on its Neon Alley service on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The series will premiere on Neon Alley this summer.

Viz Media announced earlier this month that it has become the master licensee for the series. Rights include the domestic home video, television rights, online rights and distribution, and merchandising.

The anime premiered last October with Shingo Suzuki (Mardock Scramble) as the director and character designer. The show's Japanese voice cast includes Daisuke Namikawa, Tomokazu Sugita, Mikako Komatsu, Kenjirō Tsuda, Daisuke Ono, Mamoru Miyano, Miyuki Sawashiro, Yui Horie, Takahiro Sakurai, Jun Fukuyama, Yūichi Nakamura, Satomi Satou, and Yūki Kaji. Viz Media streamed the anime in North America as it aired in Japan.

Viz describes the story:

K is set in a world where history has taken a slightly different course from the one we're familiar with and follows the story of a young boy whose life is caught in a supernatural war between seven kings. Yashiro Isana, also known as Shiro, is wanted for a crime he has no recollection of committing. He finds himself being hunted by the groups HOMRA, led by Mikoto Suoh, “The Red King,” and SCEPTER 4, led by Reisi Munakata, “The Blue King.” While on the run, another young man named Kuroh Yatogami helps him. Will this fated encounter change Shiro's life forever?

The series is also getting a film sequel next year.

Viz Media also revealed that Gintama: The Movie will premiere on Neon Alley on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The company posted a trailer for the film on Tuesday.
